HONG KONG, Jan. 16 (Xinhuanet) -- Hong Kong's chief of health would attend the International Pledging Conference on Avian and Human Pandemic Influenza in Beijing Wednesday, said the Hong Kong government Monday.
The conference is co-sponsored by the Chinese government, the European Commission, the World Bank, the World Health Organization(WHO) and other international organizations with a view to evaluate the capital and technical need of relevant countries and regions for bird flu prevention and control, mobilize fund raising efforts of all parties, and establish fund management and coordination mechanism.
York Chow, secretary for Health, Welfare and Food, would take part in the ministerial meeting and take the opportunity to meet the health ministers of countries participating in the conference.
Meanwhile, Hong Kong decided to increase poultry imports from the Chinese mainland to meet growing demands during the Chinese New Year, while stepping up prevention measures against avian influenza affecting the region. Enditem
