GUIYANG, Jan. 14 (Xinhuanet) -- The average life expectancy in southwest China's Guizhou Province reached 68 last year, 0.86 years longer than that five years ago, according to a survey by the provincial department of health.

However, it was 3.8 years shorter than the national average, the survey said.

The average life expectancy of the Guizhou people is expected to reach 69 in 2010, local health experts predicted.

Average life expectancy, the mortality of infants, and the mortality of pregnant and lying-in women are major three indices for judging the health level of residents in a certain region, according to WHO (World Health Organization) standards.

The mountainous and relatively impoverished province of Guizhouhas an average life expectancy shorter than that of more prosperous provinces and cities.

In Chinese capital of Beijing, the average life expectancy was 79.8 last year and is expected to rise to 80 in 2010. While in north China's port city of Tianjin, it was 76.71 and may increase to 78 in 2010. Enditem
