NEW YORK, Sept. 26 (Xinhuanet) -- Health officials are preparing to spray for West Nile on Staten Island, one of the five boroughs of New York city after a resident on the island is diagnosed with the virus, the city department of health said on Monday.
According to the department, this is the fourth person this year to contract the potentially fatal virus in the city.
Health officials said because of this positive diagnosis, along with other specimens found in Staten Island, the department is sending trucks to the streets to spray pesticide for the first time this year.
Infection with West Nile is often so mild that people are unaware of it. In instances of illness, the infection causes flu like symptoms, including fever, headache and body aches. Rarer is West Nile encephalitis, a brain inflammation that can lead to death. Enditem
