JAKARTA, Sept. 20 (Xinhuanet) -- Two more Indonesians are suspected to have been infected with the deadly bird flu virus, Minister of Health Siti Fadilah Supari said on Tuesday.
"Yes, there are two more people, with one suspected case an employee of Jakarta's Ragunan Zoo while the other is a vendor at the zoo," the minister was quoted by the Antara news agency as saying.
The minister said that as of Tuesday, there had been six people admitted to Sulianti Saroso Hospital in North Jakarta. Two of themearlier tested positive for the virus. Blood samples from the other patients have been sent to a Hong Kong laboratory.
The government decided to close the zoo on Monday for the next three weeks after some 19 birds tested positive for the virus.
On Monday the government declared the outbreak in the country was an "extraordinary" situation.
It confirmed last week that the 37-year-old Rini Dina, who lived near a chicken slaughterhouse in a South Jakarta suburb, wasthe fourth human fatality linked to bird flu in the country.
In July, Indonesia became the fourth country in Asia to record human cases of the disease when a man and his two daughters died after contracting bird flu. Enditem
